Today's building is obscured is history

Usually, the buildings added to the site are well known, or at least were at some point in history. But today's building, the Ames Block, is one of thousands of buildings in the history of Boston that has come and gone with no fanfare.
It is tucked behind the Old Boston City Hall on City Hall Avenue, barely visible from School Street. I have not been able to find any documentation about it to date, and only a single image, which was really a photo of the neighboring building, but which had a wide enough angle of view to catch most of the Ames Block, including it's name.
If anyone finds any information about this building ( or the site in general ), please let us know.
